Inspired Living Intentional Design

the good, the true, the beautiful

Traditionalists with an eye for finding the beauty in everything and an intimate knowledge of the timeless appeal of good design, Meander founder Meredith Gale has traveled the world as an avid collector of stories and natural inspiration. The team she has built at Meander believes strongly in the good, the true, and the beautiful

Meredith grew up in a home that nurtured a passion for design and a spirit to take action for causes with soul. Studying psychology at the College of Charleston and history in Italy, then exploring the world of couture fashion, and launching Charleston Magazine’s eponymous Weddings Magazine in 2004. Philanthropic pursuits eventually pulled her back for a full-time career in fundraising, taking her from New York to Palm Beach and San Francisco back to Charleston. Having worked with a global nonprofit which focuses on handcraft as a tool to elevate artisans out of poverty her deep-rooted pulls to history & culture, art & fashion along with her passion for positive impact were ultimately woven together and became the jumping off point for Meander, which aims to inspire the soul elevating the power of art and craft as they draw us all closer to God and nature.

A vision to preserve craft & nature's ephemeral beauty

Meredith first began to contemplate the wonders of wallpaper and hand drawn murals in 2016 on a client project for a circa 1790s property in downtown Charleston, which posed some complications, albeit beautiful ones, with every turn of the historic house hand-built and plastered centuries ago (inset image is of this serendipitous project). It was here where Meredith first worked with expert craftsman and eventual wallpaper mentor, Mark Simon. A lasting friendship was destined when the two had the same ingenious idea to solve their design conundrum, yet it was nearly a decade later that Meander would begin to take root. Meredith was
trying to help fill an open apprenticeship position for Mark to no avail, given the dwindling pool of artisan tradesmen she began to realize that God was calling her to take on the apprenticeship herself, to learn and preserve the trade. Reaching out to Mark, she learned he’d dreamed of launching a line of handmade wallpapers for years, so divine timing delivered a dedicated collaboration built on a reverence for nature and a mission to preserve an old-world creative process. Mark’s bespoke wallpapers are featured as Meander’s debut texture collection.

A reflective walk with design

Now, the Meander team is capturing nature’s glory on paper, celebrating the artistry of a time-honored craft, and helping create a sanctuary that tells your story. From hand painted bespoke landscape murals and traditional wallpaper prints inspired by meanderings both near and far, to hand crafted textured wallpapers & European finishes honed with a Renaissance focus on quality, the thoughtful, inspired designs draw you in and bring joy to all who experience them.

Decades of expertise and passion for the craft shines through, always following the path of quality over quantity, and providing handmade works of art that tell a story and help shape yours.
